My Sister
by
Robert H. Dirr Jr.
Seeing her stirs up images of a miniature baby wrapped in a light blanket
And being told in noiseless whispers that she was my brand new sister.
Since then I've teased and taunted her, regardless of her feelings, or the
Embarrassment before the faces of her peers, but it was done with love.
She was a daddy's girl and tinges of envy evolved to a true sibling bond.
I've watched her endure several calamities as she grew into the woman
She has become, but like the rest of our family, she is a true survivor that
Always rebounds from obstacles and consequences she collided with.
I've supported her through a bad marriage and she through mine, always
Sharing thoughts and tears and meals and fears until all was well again.
She is the guiding light that binds our family collectively and continues
The tradition of weekly gatherings that melts the many miles between us.
She couldn't have married a more perfect partner, and it delights me that
My wife has become her adopted big sister. Dominoes and canasta,
Birthdays and holidays, weekends and weekdays have become the norm,
And everyone she has touched becomes ever blessed. I love you, Sis.
