REFLECTIONS

by Robert H. Dirr Jr.

I've lived my whole life, in a black and white world,
And dreamed in technicolor.
I've searched in vain, for the one they call Lord,
And worshipped the almighty dollar.

My ego flew high, through thunderous dark skies,
That hid the true world from me.
Material things and too many white lies
Were all my blind eyes could see.

A war and some drugs, lost loves and much more,
Became the stuff I called living.
Denial and sadness were the clothes that I wore,
Always taking, rather than giving.

But flirting with death, once or twice too often,
Can change your whole point of view.
When you see yourself, lying calm in a coffin,
You'll know what you have to do.

Listen to roses and watch eagles soar
And smell the fresh cut grass.
Touch the heart of one person, or more,
For all that we see will soon pass.

Dream while you can, make wishes on stars,
Shining bright in a sky of dark blue.
My only wish (that I hide in a jar)
Is to be someone's wish come true.
